2019 - Three Tales From Babel
In 2019 the cast were challenged with a wider age range from 8 to 18 years. They learnt the definition of a conscientious objector but more than that, they engaged with the past and were challenged to feel the true weight of the name "conchie". By the end of the week, they were able to fully transport the audience into the play, transitioning them from merely watching the play to experiencing the memories with the characters. Douglas Roberts, the playwright and director, expertly incorporated real heritage letters and facts into the story from his work with in the Scottish Archives.
The play encompassed two troupes of actors, both performing Shakespeare's Hamlet, both in the same theatre, 100 years apart. One cast is still overshadowed by the recently ended "war to end all wars". The other is slowly piecing together the mystery of why the Babel Theatre was closed one hundred years earlier.
