2020 - The Arabian Queen

In 2020 the production presented the challenge of a cast of 21, and a wider range of experience and ages. The script written by Douglas Roberts was organised in a way that combined older experienced actors in groups with newer ones. This allowed them to become mentors and share their knowledge and experience. This collaboration was carried into the play itself.

Delving deep into shadowy caves, the play explored the nature of storytelling. A dead body in an old chest fished out of the sea in a raging storm opens a labyrinth of interconnected plot lines. Queen Scheherazade, finding herself surrounded by treachery and schemes, turns once again to her storytelling powers. Mysterious travellers arrive, drawn by the juxtaposing events. There are tea merchants, an evil Vizier, a magic lamp and a cave that opens if you say the right words. All comes right by the end, and a long story arc stretching back years is finally resolved.
